What is OT?

At Pacific Kids Pediatric Therapy, services will be provided by specially trained pediatric Occupational Therapist, Shelly Brask, OTR/L. Occupational Therapy services assist children to become independent in their daily activities.  Services include evaluation, treatment, parent training, and consultation with families and other professionals.

For children with congenital or acquired conditions that affect the development of age-appropriate skills, an occupational therapist assists with development of prerequisite skills necessary to become independent in:

  • Self care skills / activities of daily living including dressing, feeding, grooming, bathing, toileting and functional mobility
  • Manipulative play skills (fine motor)
  • Interactive play skills (social interaction)
  • Explorative play skills (sensory processing)
  • Work/productive activities, including attending, functional communication, self organizational skills and problem solving

Prerequisite skills addressed may include

  • Upper extremity strength, endurance and mobility
  • Range of motion
  • Fine Motor skills: dexterity, coordination and in-hand manipulation
  • Gross Motor skills: motor planning and coordination
  • Sensory processing
  • Visual Motor and Perceptional Motor skills
